Bad negotiation tactics are those methods that you choose but they fail to get you to your stated goal. In other words, you decide to do something and then it backfires on you. Here are some tactics that almost always backfire on negotiators.
Stonewalling: People think that they can hold out for better but they often make the other party so mad they get less.
Bullying: Some people think that they can bully people by saying something like, "You guys at ABC, Inc. must be real idiots if you think that I'm gonna agree to this nonsense." Most people refuse to do business with these types rather than put up with it.
Dirty tricks: A tricky negotiator may slip something in the purchase order and claim that he made a mistake. Yeah right. You'll never do business with that person again.
Here's the point: If the tactic won't get you what you want when you need to go, ditch it.
