Redefining Your Perceptions of Time in Regards to Purpose

Delineating and Categorizing the Things You Tolerate
We create the problems in our life that we try to avoid.

They give us a sense of purpose: Some of us are more apt to tolerate because it provides us with a sense of purpose or makes us feel useful, making it possible for us to play the role of the "problem solver," even though we are letting something happen that we'd rather do without. Once you understand how these irritations affect you, you'll notice the consequences on your life more and more.

The fact is our lives are often set up to tolerate. "I was apprehensive and didn't know how to confront and eliminate certain issues," remembers one of my clients. "I simply accepted there were always going to be problems when running a business, especially with personnel. I realize now that by putting up with certain things, I was actually training people that their unacceptable behavior was OK."

Oddly enough, tolerating actually works for us. Putting up with unwanted situations creates resistance. Similar to striking a match, the friction of two opposing forces generates heat, providing us with energy. It's human nature to get our energy from any available source, even if it does cause suffering or difficulties.
