Fine-Tuning Your Voice Mail Messages
Figuring out how to be enticing is hard work. When I first started using the new voice mail message format, it took me a while to get the hang of it. I'm not sure what was harder -- keeping it under 30 seconds or figuring out how I could effectively pique somebody's interest.
I'm embarrassed to admit that my first messages were almost 60 seconds long. I loved every single word in them. My natural instinct was to tell prospective customers as much as I could possibly squeeze into that little time frame. Rather than cut words, I tried to speak faster so I could get it all in. When it finally dawned on me that I needed a variety of follow-up messages, I realized I didn't have to cram everthing into one voice mail. What a relief?
