Persuasion Involves Appropriate Facial Expression
Be Mindful Of Your Facial Expressions When Selling
Our facial expressions tell people all kinds of things, and not always what we intend. Have you ever smiled at someone who didn't smile back? Remember your reaction to that? Chances are, you felt a little offended! "I'll never smile at them again!"
Ever been in pain and somebody stood there grinning at you? I think that's what we call "customer service," right? The point is, if someone is not smiling and you are, and you want to be persuasive, a signal of similarity gets sent when you wipe that goofy smile off your face.
If you're having a tough day and your persuadee isn't, at least account for your behavior so they don't take it personally. "Sorry, I'm having a rough day." Then your face won't distract them from hearing your words.
