Help, I Have to Give a Presentation!

As an executive speech coach that is something I hear on a regular basis. Here is a down and dirty way to improve your next presentation.

There are three elements that are going to go into your program:
  • The structure of how you put it together
  • Your content, and
  • Good delivery.
  • Start with your premise or the central theme. What is it that you want to say? What is your point of view that you are going to prove? Then do your talking points, what I call the points of wisdom that make your case. Get off to a good start; do not say I am going to talk about. Instead start with a story that states your case, an interesting statistic or interesting fact. Then in the next fifteen minutes you will learn, talk about them not I will say. Use stories and examples to make each talking point. Then you review at the end with a rhetorical question.

So how do we, do your review. Don't forget to challenge the audience to do something with the information they heard. If you do a Q & A session don't close on it. You have to craft your closing remarks because your last words linger. Make sure they are yours.

Next time you think" Help I have to give a presentation!" use this formula, it will build your confidence.

Smile, your audience is on your side.
